Dear Kate
You and your organisational colleagues do an incredible job regarding raising awareness of homelessness and in assisting the homeless at the grassroots.
Accordingly, The Citizen’s Dividend Organisation is pleased to spread your message.
However, as you know too well, every year there are ever more who need assistance, which implies more of the same won’t do….
Regarding big picture systemic reform, The Citizen’s Dividend Organisation believes ending involuntary homelessness (not to mention the other elements of ‘the big social catastrophe four’: mental stress over financial survival, children living in poverty and financial entrapment in domestic violence) is only – yet necessarily – a Universal Basic Income away.
The UBI gets to the source of the issues and nips them, preemptively, in the bud.
And, if the Social Services Industry united behind a UBI then governments would implement it because, unlike the multitude of fiddly ad-hoc partial-alternative policies, the holistic UBI also serves to advance the alleviation of every other socio-econo-environment challenge.
Specifically, if by June 30 2020, the Social Services Industry (let alone, economists, business, educators, health practitioners, scientists, the legal profession and the greater environmental movement etc.) united behind this signature policy then, by 2022, Australia would have ‘The Reform of the Century’.
Given, as you rightly point out, the tremendous ongoing Unnecessary Suffering and therefore the urgency, do you think it is at all possible that the Social Services Industry can rally to this level of cooperation?
Could there be a better New Year’s Resolution?
Thank you.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Paul

Send your MP our Everybody’s Home Christmas card and let them know how many Australians won’t have a home this Christmas. Hi Paul, Will you send your MP our Everybody’s Home Christmas card asking them to take action to end homelessness? We need to show them that while they’re enjoying their break, for many Australians at Christmas there will be literally no room at the inn. The holidays should be a time for friends, family and getting together to celebrate over summer. The Government’s own data out today shows that this Christmas many Australians won’t have a home to celebrate in. But it can be fixed! If we provide more social housing, and politicians take concrete action to deliver the housing and support people need, we can end homelessness in 10 years. That’s why we’ve come up with our own Everybody’s Home Christmas card for you all to send to your local MPs to let them know ending homelessness in your local community is up to them. All you have to do is add your postcode to find your MP, add your details, hit send and they’ll receive a card from you. We’ve added the Prime Minister and the Assistant Minister for Homelessness to the cc list so they’ll get everyone single one of your cards as well. If we all send a card we can get them to every MP in every electorate in Australia – and make sure ending homelessness is on their agenda for 2020! Thanks again for your help. Kate Colvin and the Everybody’s Home team. P.S. Best wishes for the festive season from us all at Everybody’s Home and thanks for all your great support in 2019! |
